Mayfield Woods Middle School Community Information

Tue, 08/20/2024 - 1:30pm

Dear Mayfield Woods Middle School CommUNITY,

I hope this message finds you all well-rested and excited for the upcoming school year! The start of a new school year is always filled with energy and excitement.  We are thrilled to welcome our students back on Monday, August 26th. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working diligently to prepare for your arrival, and we can’t wait to begin another year of learning and growth together. The doors will open at 8:23 AM, and we are ready to hit the ground running!

I’m pleased to inform you that student schedules will be available via Synergy starting on Wednesday, August 21st. Please be sure to check them before the first day to ensure a smooth start.

For our new students and 6th graders, we have a special orientation planned on Thursday, August 22nd, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Students should report directly to their first period class, while parents will gather in the cafeteria. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to get acclimated to the school and prepare for the exciting year ahead.

We’re also looking forward to our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 5th, starting at 6:00 PM. This event will give parents a chance to walk through their student’s schedule and meet their teachers. Parents will start in their student’s first period class and then rotate through the schedule, just as the students do during a typical school day.

Our Amazing, supportive commUNITY - I want our parents to know that our staff appreciate how incredibly fortunate we are to work within such a wonderful and supportive community. Our thanks and gratitude go out to our phenomenal PTA, led by President Sylvie Williams. The PTA welcomed our teachers back with a delightful breakfast on August 15th, setting a positive tone for the year ahead. We encourage all parents to join the PTA and get involved in the life of our school. Your participation makes a significant difference!

Something new this year.  A challenge!  This year, we are going to challenge our students with the task of behaving in a manner where we can claim that Mayfield Woods Middle School - Is The Friendliest School in the Country!  Yes, we can do it! How do we get there? It will take all of our students to do their part.  We are going to ask each student to be friendly, considerate of others, and to take responsibility for making a positive contribution to the school community.  The more friendly we interact with each other, the better the school experience this will be for ALL of our students.  This year at MWMS, there is a premium on being friendly.

As always, we will consistently demonstrate our commitment to excellence through our expectations for our students.  We will show our students how much we care for them by expecting ALL of them to succeed and excel. Thanking our community for sending us such wonderful young people to work with.

As you can tell by my message, we are incredibly excited to kick off another fantastic year at Mayfield Woods Middle School.  We want this year to be the best school year our students and staff have ever had!

See you soon,

David Strothers
Principal
Mayfield Woods Middle School

NEW Student Orientation August 22, 2024 1pm-2pm

Join us on Thursday, August 22nd, at 1:00pm  for our NEW student orientation. Come learn about Mayfield, meet some of your teachers and classmates, and see the school.  For the first forty minutes, students will report to their 1st period classes while parents hear from our administration in the cafeteria.   Once the parent presentation is over they will be released to meet up with their students in their 1st period class.  Students and parents will then have the opportunity to walk their students' schedule and become familiar with the building.

Schedules will be available online prior to the event. View and take a screenshot of your schedule so that you can proceed to your 1st period. If you are unable to view your schedule, check in at the front lobby to find out your student’s 1st period class.  We can't wait to see you all there!

**This event is for 6th grade students and NEW to Mayfield 7th and 8th grade students**

Chromebooks

Students should bring their assigned Chromebook to school every day and charge their Chromebook the night before school.  Please make sure that your child's assigned Chromebook and charger has a label with their name.  All 6th graders and new students will be issued a Chromebook and charger during the first two weeks of school.

Families may receive an invoice for a lost/stolen or damaged Chromebook while in a student’s care and/or as the result of neglect on the part of the student.  Information about the repair and replacement cost of HCPSS-issued Chromebooks can be found at https://www.hcpss.org/devices/repair-costs

Family File

The 2024-2025 Family File is now accessible to families through HCPSS Connect. This is an important step as we prepare for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Your Family File needs to be verified and/or updated EVERY school year.

Your completed Family File provides emergency contact and other critical information for students and families prior to the first day of school.  Completing your Family File also ensures that you are receiving important information and updates for HCPSS and Mayfield Woods.
